Local self-reliance

Children of Uganda going to school together for a better future. That is our mission. We believe in the power of the local community.

That is why the Astrid Uganda Foundation supports promising initiatives that enhance self-reliance. Children can stay in their social environment longer and safely go to school. This way they learn to take care of themselves. In their turn they can contribute to a strong community.

Sustainability and transparency

The Astrid Uganda Foundation consciously chooses to work with local partners. They know the way and speak the local language. They provide continuity and lasting results. Because sustainability defines all projects we support. We select our partners carefully. They are officially registered, have a solid management and a clear financial policy. We ask and provide transparency so it is clear to everyone what we expect from each other. When selecting projects and partners, we do not decide lightly. You can read all about it in our acceptance conditions.

The Global Goals

For sustainable development

On 2015, September 25th, the world has made its biggest ever promise to itself. Our leaders have, as a follow up for the Millennium goals, agreed to 17 Global Goals that will mean a better life for all of us. They will virtually end extreme poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and tackle climate change in the next 15 years. It’s one of the most incredible to-do lists ever written – but now we need to turn words into action. We all have the power to make sure our leaders keep these world-changing promises.
These are the goals:

Of course the Astrid Uganda Foundations supports all of the goals, but we focus mainly on goal number 4, about the Quality of Education, and secondly on goals 1, 3 and 8.

When selecting projects and partners, the Astrid Uganda Foundation makes thorough evaluations. We select projects that are sustainable and support the self-reliance of the local community. We ask partners to be transparent about their approach, organization and finances. In return, the Astrid Uganda Foundation offers sustainable organizational and financial support. Of course we are transparent ourselves about how we work.
